Do I need a GP referral?
You do not need a referral for our services. You can contact us via phone, email or facebook and we can organise an appointment for you at one of our three practices.
What will my Midwifery care cost?
We believe that all women should be able to access Midwifery services and have affordable pricing options. We are confident we have an option to suit your needs. The initial appointment is always bulk billed through medicare, where all fee and options for care are explained.
Will Medicare or my Private Health fund cover any costs?
Medicare rebates are available for most of our services. We offer some bulk billing for women who meet criteria to ensure that all women can receive this care. All private health funds offer rebates for our services, some offering more than others. All of these options will be outlined at the initial appointment.
What if I don’t have Medicare and am self funded?
Midwives first has helped many women and their families that do not have access to Medicare. You can receive quality care for your pregnancy, birth and post birth at a cost that meets your needs. A Midwife that knows you and understands your needs is more likely to do their best to provide the care tailored to your financial requirements.
Where can I be supported to birth my baby?
We can support you to have your baby in the environment that you choose. We have access to care for you at four hospitals in Queensland. These include the Gold Coast University Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital, Redlands Hospital and Logan Hospital. We are able to care for women in the birth centre and birth suite environment depending on your individual needs. We also offer home birth for low risk women.
We can also offer birth support for women who choose to birth at hospitals we do not have access to.
Can I have a waterbirth?
Our midwives are experienced and accredited to provide water immersion and waterbirth at the hospitals that have waterbirth facilities available. If you choose to birth at home we have a number of waterbirth pools that we can loan out.
Am I still able to be cared for by Midwives First if I develop a problem in my pregnancy ?
Midwives First work closely with a number of health professionals including Obstetricians, Endocrinologists, Physiotherapists, Paediatricians, Lactation consultants, Anaesthetists. This also includes a number of natural therapists such as Homeopaths and Acupuncturists. If I have had a caesarean before can I still have a midwife from Midwives First?
Yes we can still care for you if you have had a previous caesarean. We specialise in vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) and are able to provide assessment, counselling and support for those appropriate for VBAC. We facilitate consultation with our medical colleagues and work collaboratively to provide optimum care.
We can also provide care for women having an elective caesarean section and can help you have a good experience.
If I have problems at the birth, will Midwives First still continue to care for me?
We are experienced midwives that have the abilities to care for women regardless of the problems that may occur. Some problems we will need to work in partnership with our medical collegues, but many we can manage on our own. For example if you need a drip or require stitches, we are able to provide this service so you do not need to meet another person at your birth.
